I recently had the opportunity to visit the Centro de Visitantes de Agua Clara, in Colón, with my son Francisco and my friend Alain, who came from the French Polinesia.Curiously, we were the only Panamanians That day at the viewpoint made me reflect on how important it is to rediscover our own wonders. There were over 100 people from the United States, with a tour operator.
From the very first moment, the experience was excellent. The place is spacious, organized, clean, and surrounded by nature. We were able to observe the passage of enormous ships up close Neopanamax through the locks, an impressive display of modern engineering. The view of Atlantic Bridge In the background, it completed a perfect picture.
It caught my attention that The entrance fee is much more affordable than at the Miraflores Locks.:
- Panamenians we only paid B/. 3.00,
- children and older adults enter free or for B/. 1.50.
The entrance fee for foreign tourists is approximately B/. 10.00which is still a reasonable price for everything it offers.
Schedules and what you can see.
This spot is open at 8am to 4pm, and the visit includes:
- Un A main covered viewpoint with a direct view to the Canal.
- Una sala de proyecciones con un corto audiovisual sobre la ampliación.
- Dos senderos ecológicos rodeados de flora tropical: uno corto y uno de alrededor de 1 km.
- Una tienda, restaurante y área infantil para los más pequeños.
My son thoroughly enjoyed walking along the trails and watching the birds, while Alain and I stopped to watch the ships calmly pass by. We experienced it as an educational, family-oriented, and cultural outing.
¿Cómo llegar?
Desde Ciudad de Panamá, el trayecto en auto toma entre 1 hora y 15 a 1 hora y 30 minutos por la autopista hacia Colón. Nosotros fuimos en vehículo particular, pero también se puede llegar en transporte público y taxi desde la ciudad de Colón.
¿Vale la pena?
Definitivamente sí. Es una visita que recomiendo tanto a panameños como a extranjeros. El ambiente es más tranquilo que en las Esclusas de Miraflores, la infraestructura es moderna, y se siente uno más cerca de la naturaleza y la magnitud del Canal.
Explorar Agua Clara fue para nosotros una forma de reconectar con nuestras raíces, compartir cultura con un amigo del otro lado del mundo, y enseñarle a mi hijo el orgullo de ser panameño.
Puedes llevar tu comida, hay área de comedor al aire libre. Y lo recomiendo, ya que en el sitio no hay donde comer.
¿Por qué Agua Clara es más barato?

Miraflores incluye una película IMAX narrada por Morgan Freeman, lo que encarece la entrada. - Tamaño y servicios:
El centro de Miraflores es más grande, más turístico y con museo interactivo, tienda, restaurante y múltiples niveles de observación.
Agua Clara es más simple, con un enfoque más natural y tranquilo. - Ubicación y demanda:
Miraflores está en la capital, con más turismo, lo que también influye en los precios. Agua Clara está en Colón, con menor flujo de visitantes.
